The Red Ripoff
My previous work has focused on publication design with some forays into graphic design. I wanted to challenge myself with a new project, so I decided to do a fully featured infographic. I was inspired by a February 2013 post at blogTO by Larry Green. In his post he outlined how the prices of the TTC compared to other transit systems in North America. Turns out, the TTC doesn't compare well. At all. The TTC is North America's most expensive transit system. Not exactly something to celebrate for Canada's largest city, but it is the stuff of which compelling infographics are made.
I kept the design simple, building on the TTC's base colour scheme with some darker tones thrown into the mix, which I thought reflected the theme of the infographic well. I wanted to use symbols and graphical representations of data that were equally clear, and I tried not to over-design the piece. I learned a lot working on this project, not least of which is that infographics take a long time to create, but the result was well worth the effort.
